Fish Head
Every once in a while something odd catches my attention and I simply must paint it. This piece is a result of one of those moments.
My dad and grandpa went out fishing in the Monterey Bay and returned with a healthy catch of fish which they processed on my dad’s truck bed in the driveway. My kids were interested in watching the process so it was a moment where everyone was gathered around admiring the haul, chatting about the adventure, and watching the processing of the days catch. That’s when the fish head caught my eye. I was quickly mesmerized. The wide range of colors were unexpected as they glittered in the days’ sunlight and I needed to capture the moment. A few reference photos later I found the image I wanted to recreate and thus this “Fish Head” was made.
